What we do

A storm door hangs off the trim, not the jamb.

A technician adjusting the closer of a new storm door

Storm door installation across DFW, from our Coppell base. That’s what makes it a different job from an entry door: the casing has to carry it, and the opening it is squared to is the one the trim makes, not the one the frame makes.

A technician measures the trim and the opening, checks that the casing will hold the door, and fits the closer and the sweep so the door shuts on its own without slamming.

What a storm door is fixed to

A storm door hangs off the trim, not off the wall.

A storm door is mounted to the brickmould or the casing around your entry door, and it comes with its own hinge rail cut to the opening. That is why the fit depends on what is already there: the width between the trim, the depth available to the entry door’s own swing, and whether the trim itself is sound enough to carry a door that will be pulled on every day.

What people mean by a storm door varies. A full-view door is glass, with an insert that can be swapped for a screen. A ventilating door has glass and screen panels that slide past one another so you can open the top, the bottom, or both. A screen door is screen only. Which of them suits an opening depends on which way it faces and how much sun it takes.

The hardware is the part that does the work: a closer at the top or at the top and bottom, which controls how fast it shuts; a hold-open washer on the closer rod; a latch; and a sweep at the bottom. That hardware is what wears, and on a door we installed it is warranty work — all parts and labor, five years.

What it looks like

  • The door slams, or drifts shut too slowly to latch.
  • A closer rod that no longer holds the door open.
  • The latch missing the strike, or only catching when lifted.
  • Trim that is soft or split where the hinge rail is screwed to it.

Where the line is

What we don’t do.

Two things we don’t do, so you’re not left waiting on us: broken or fogged glass and insulated-glass units, and solar screens. Lock and latch work is the same — on a new unit we attach, adjust and test the latch the manufacturer supplied, and nothing beyond that.

Questions people ask

Straight answers.

What does a storm door actually do?
It puts a second, lighter door in front of the entry door — a screen in summer, a wind and rain break in winter, and a way to leave the front door open for light.
What will it cost?
It depends on the storm door you choose and on the trim it hangs from. The price is written on the estimate before anything is ordered, and the invoice matches it.
Will it fit my opening?
A technician measures the opening and the trim, because a storm door hangs off the casing rather than the jamb. What fits goes on the written estimate.
Do you repair storm doors as well?
Installation is the service here. If a closer or a sweep has gone on a door we installed, that’s warranty work — all parts and labor, five years.
Do you charge to come out?
No. We look first and give you a written estimate. You approve it before any work starts, and there is no charge if you decline.
What does the warranty cover?
Five years on parts and labor, every repair and every install. The scope is on the estimate you approve and on the invoice.
