Four things get called the opener, and they fail differently
The motor, the rail that moves the door, the two sensors near the floor, and the remotes and wall button. A fault in any one looks the same from outside.
The opener is the motor. It only steers a door the springs already balance.

Is it the opener or the door?
It can be either. If the motor runs and nothing moves, a spring may be broken, the opener may have let go of the door, or the door may be jammed. The technician starts with the door.
What will it cost?
It depends on whether it is the door or the opener, and if it is the opener, which part: a gear, the board, the sensors, a remote or the rail. The price is written on the estimate before anything starts.
Can you fix mine, or does it need replacing?
We repair first. Gears, control boards, sensors, remotes and rails are all repairs. If the opener really is at the end of its life, a new one goes on the estimate beside the repair.

That is the two sensors near the floor. Usually one has been nudged out of line, or a lens is dirty. Leave them for the technician.
