Spring system that stretches along the horizontal tracks on each side of the door. Older style; cheaper but less safe and shorter-lived than torsion. Most DFW doors built after 1995 use torsion.
Opener setting that determines how much resistance the door can encounter before reversing. After spring or door changes, force limits need recalibration.
Torsion spring rated for 20,000+ cycles vs. the standard 10,000. Costs $40, $80 more per pair installed; routinely lasts 2× as long in real-world DFW use.
